Are you an owner or occupier of a non-domestic building? Well, if you are you may well be the duty holder and have some or all the responsibility for conducting repairs upon the premises, in which case any legal responsibility for ensuring an asbestos survey has been conducted will rest with you. A key stage in managing asbestos is to identify the location, type, condition and extent of any asbestos-containing materials. This can be achieved by conducting an asbestos survey. The survey should be in accordance with HSE guidance.
A Management survey is a standard asbestos survey that is used to locate the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy. Then you have the refurbishment and demolition survey, which is needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This survey is used to locate and describe all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place or in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve a destructive inspection, as necessary to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach.
Once a survey has been completed on a property we can then move on to the removal process, it is important that asbestos is removed because it claims the lives of around 4500 people each year.
