Asbestos handled properly in London
London's asbestos risk is really several different problems sharing a postcode. The Victorian and Edwardian terraces that fill much of inner London rarely contain asbestos in their original fabric, but almost all of them have been altered since, and it is the later work that introduces it: 1950s to 1980s refurbishments, rewires, boxed-in services and overlaid ceilings.
Post-war estates are a different matter. System-built blocks from the 1950s to the 1970s frequently contain asbestos insulating board in riser cupboards, panel infills, soffits and communal ceilings, where its condition matters far more than its presence. Outer London adds interwar semis with cement garage roofs and outbuildings, plus a large stock of 1960s and 70s schools, clinics and light-industrial units where AIB partitions and cement sheet roofing are still common.
We have worked in the capital, including licensed removal of asbestos insulating board at Southwark, signed off through a four-stage clearance. That said, we are based in Poole, and London work is planned rather than same-day. For phased or programmed work that is rarely a problem. For a genuine emergency you are usually better served by a contractor on your doorstep, and we will tell you so rather than take the booking.
