Here at Asbestos Contracting Limited, we can survey your building to identify the location, condition, type and extent of any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs). This can be achieved by conducting an Asbestos Survey. The survey should be in accordance with HSE guidance note HSG264, this describes two types. These are Management Survey and Refurbishment & Demolition Survey. The refurbishment and demolition survey is needed when any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. The survey is used to locate and describe all of the Asbestos Containing Materials in the area where the work is going to be taken place or in the whole building if it is going to be demolished. The survey is fully intrusive and involves destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to get to. A survey like this may be needed in other circumstances like intrusive maintenance and repair for plat removal and dismantling. The management survey is a standard asbestos survey. Its purpose is to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation, and to access their condition.
If you own or occupy a non-domestic building it is a legal requirement to have an Asbestos survey and up to date Asbestos Register. If you are an employer or you are self-employed and have some or all of the responsibility for conducting repairs on your premises and you may well be the “duty holder” in which case any legal responsibility for ensuring your asbestos survey has been conducted will rest with you.
