What Is Asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used in a variety of commercial and industrial products for its strength and heat resistance. Asbestos can be found in insulation, flooring, shingles, textiles, and other materials.

Exposure to asbestos can cause serious health problems, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis. If you suspect that you have asbestos in your building please get in contact with our team.

Bournemouth Asbestos Surveying

Before we can come in and remove any asbestos from your building we need to complete a survey to understand where the asbestos is and what condition the asbestos is currently in. There are two different surveys that can be undertaken on a property. These are management surveys and refurbishment & demolition surveys. The management one is a standard asbestos survey, this is used to identify the location, type, condition and extent of any asbestos-containing materials within the building. A refurbishment and demolition survey is needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This survey is used to locate and describe all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place or in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection as necessary to gain access to all areas.

The Dangers of Asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been used in a variety of industries for its heat-resistant and insulating properties. However, asbestos exposure can lead to serious health problems, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis.

Asbestos fibres are so small that they can be inhaled without being noticed. Once inhaled, the fibres lodge themselves in the lungs and other tissues, where they can cause inflammation and damage. Over time, this exposure can lead to the development of lung cancer, mesothelioma (a type of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs), and asbestosis (a chronic lung disease). Although asbestos was once widely used in a variety of industries, its use has declined in recent years due to the health hazards associated with exposure.
