Poole Asbestos Removal

Why It’s Important to Remove Asbestos

Asbestos was used for its heat and fire-resistant properties, but it was found to cause serious health problems.

Asbestos fibres, if disturbed, would become airborne and can easily be inhaled, leading to long-term health effects. Therefore, it is crucial to remove any asbestos material from any building to prevent occupants from harm.

  • Mesothelioma (Which Is Fatal)
  • Lung Cancer (Almost Always Fatal)
  • Asbestosis (Not Always Fatal But Can Be Debilitating)
  • Diffuse Pleural Thickening (Which Is Not Fatal)

These are the conditions asbestos can cause, and because of this asbestos is responsible for 4,500 deaths each year. This is why it is essential to have your building checked for asbestos to keep occupants safe.

How Do We Find Asbestos?

At Abestos Contracting Limited, we use surveys to examine a building properly and correctly identify asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

Having a survey completed on your property is a critical stage in managing asbestos, as it will identify the location, type, condition and extent of any ACM.

The management survey is the first type of survey that can be completed on a property. The purpose is to locate the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building that could be damaged or disturbed during average occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation.

Then the second survey that can be completed is the refurbishment and demolition survey. This is needed before any refurbishment or demolition work is carried out. This survey is used to locate and describe all ACMs where the refurbishment work will occur or in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to access all areas.

The type of asbestos survey required will depend on client/property-specific requirements and will be established during the survey planning phase.
