Removing Asbestos Containing Material

At ACL we hold a full and unconditional health and safety executive licence (HSE) removing asbestos-containing material is what we do. We also own and manage our own licenced waste transfer station permitted by the environment agency. It is our duty to discover and remove any ACM’s within your premises. We provide a complete service for testing, surveying, removing and disposing of all asbestos products and contamination. Asbestos has been used for more than 2000 years and in the UK there are over 1 million commercial, industrial and public buildings that contain asbestos materials. In the UK, asbestos was used between the 1950s and the 1980’s asbestos was used in a wide variety of products and between the 60s and 70s if you have work done on your premises it would be very likely that asbestos was put into your building.

Even up until 1999 some asbestos products were still being used. Asbestos is dangerous and shouldn’t be risked inside of a building where it can be damaged or disturbed because it can cause four diseases. These are mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and diffuse pleural thickening. These diseases are responsible for 4500 deaths each year. We have a highly trained team that can undertake the removal and disposal of all materials containing asbestos.

Before we can remove any asbestos we have to complete a survey to identify the location, type, condition and extent of any asbestos-containing materials. This can be achieved by conducting an asbestos survey. The survey should be in accordance with the HSE guidelines. The surveys that will be completed on your site will either be the management survey or the refurbishment and demolition survey. The management survey is used to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACM’s in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy. Then the refurbishment and demolition survey is used if you are looking to refurbish a part of the premises or demolish the building. This will be intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas.
